Nevertheless, harsh methods are not recommended when dealing with the dog. In spite of their vicious appearance, they are rather sensitive inside and excessive pressure is likely to make them aloof. It is wise to use positive reinforcement and various incentives when training the dog.

These hounds are said to be slightly hard to train. They are intelligent dogs and are willing to please their owners. Still, like other giant breeds of dog, the dogs act rather slowly.
